A stroke is the third most common cause of death in the UK. It is also  a leading cause of severe adult disability . More than 250,000 people live with disabilities caused by stroke.

The stroke service at Salford Royal is a nationally recognised centre of excellence. The centre was awarded  the North West Trust-tech Clinical Innovations Award in 2005 and the BUPA Clinical Excellence Award in 2004.The unit cares for adults of all ages who have suffered a stroke by providing both treatment and rehabilitation to patients either referred from Accident and Emergency or by their GPs.
